College admissions continues to change every year and certain trends stand out. Here are 3 trends that became obvious in 2011.
1. Students applied to more colleges than ever before. Many students realize how unpredictable college admissions can be and wanted to make sure they had covered all of their bases and had more opportunities for college acceptance. Six to eight applications for many students was about average.
2. Selective schools became even more selective. Most of the 200 selective colleges and universities had more than enough applicants from which to choose. They could afford to be
selective and they were. It takes more than top grades and test scores. Colleges are looking for students who will bring something unique to their campus.
3. Students who could afford to pay full tuition had an edge in college admissions. While colleges and universities like to be financially need-blind when considering college applicants, most can no longer be this way. They too are facing financial issues and sometimes they have to choose a student with the ability to pay over one who cannot.
